Amid COVID-19, ED Provides Regulatory Flexibility

By | July 14, 2020

As the coronavirus crisis continues and an uncertain new school year approaches, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) recently announced some leniency on certain regulatory reporting and disclosures.

ED extended the deadlines for the following:

  • Campus and Fire Safety: Institutions must distribute their Annual Security Reports (ASRs) and Annual Fire Safety Reports (AFDRs) to required recipients by December 31, 2020. Normally, the deadline is October 1. The annual crime and fire statistics survey will be open from November 18, 2020, through January 14, 2021.
  • Fiscal Operations Report and Application to Participate (FISAP): The submission deadline for the 2021-2022 FISAP is November 2, 2020, extended from the normal October 1 due date. The deadlines for FISAP edit corrections and Perkins Cash on Hand remain the same at December 15, 2020.
  • Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA): The deadline for this annual disclosure is now December 21, 2020, instead of the normal October 15 deadline. The online EADA Survey will run from December 2, 2020, through January 28, 2021.

Although these deadlines give institutions some room to breathe at a difficult time, ED is encouraging institutions to try to maintain a normal reporting schedule.
